So Much Work!!!

Today I realized how hard this was going to be. I thought I could do just one simple survey and get all the data I needed. I was wrong; I have to make a survey to find out how many people, form each grade, actually eat CityHigh's lunches and the number of students who like the lunches. I have to make up a survey with food options on the list that everyone/almost everyone will agree with. I have to find out what lunches CityHigh surves that the students like so that we may keep those and only dispose of the problem lunches. I have to make a poster to find out whose interested in this matter (teachers&students) and I still have to start recruiting the student population of the Wellness committee.

New goals

I talked to Mrs. Johnson and I had to squeeze my project into something a little smaller. My goal now is to change the school lunches by getting students and staff to interact with each other to plan future lunches. I will be responsbile for gathering students to participate in the Wellness committee group which for now is all staff. I have to figure out how I'm going to get the students to join and I also have to make up a survey for all grades to help get some reasonable options in.

Delay in Plans

I was suppose to have a meeting with Mrs. Johnson today at the the beginning of second block, but for some reason she wasn't in her office or in the building. I guess I'm going to have to re-schedule. Today I'm going to gather more information about my topic and continue writing my proposal.

Proposal

In my proposal I am at point were I'm trying to convince people the importance of my project. Today I sent Mrs. Johnson an email to try and see when could meet for the fourth time. She responds with answers to every question but that one. I'm starting to think she doesn't want to meet with me.

Meeting

I'm trying to get a meeting with Mrs. Johnson so I can figure out how this committee is going to get off the ground. I'm waiting for her to e-mail me back a date and time for this meeting between her, the other members and I. Hopefully by the end of this week I will have started recruiting the student population for the committee.

Good News

Finally I have something to work up to. For days I've been wondering 'what am I going to get out of this?' 'what am I suppose to have at the end?' Now I know. Yesterday I emailed Mrs. Johnson about a wellness committee that I heard the school had at some point. Although it only consist of staff now, but I can make that work to my advantage. What I am planning to do is get a student population of this committee started up, so there can be more communitcation between the students and the teachers about our lunch and other issues that may come up. By the time I'm finished with this project I hope to have more than just a wellness committee talking about food, but discussing other issues that students and teachers have problems with in the school. But for now I'm sticking with the food.

Update

Here's an update on whats going on since the last time I blogged. I have now officially switched my topic to school lunch guidelines/programs. My essential question is 'Who is responsible for school lunch guidelines and should it be updated?'. I'm working on my timeline for my project which is more difficult than I thought it would be. I found a lot of information on food programs that the government funds and I'm comparing it to the time and money that is spent on the school lunch program to help parents who might not be able to afford their child's day to day lunch. I am also looking at a committee that I hope still operates in our school, if it does it will be a big help to my graduation project. If not I'm planning to try and restart the program myself, which will also be helpful to my project.

Switch

I would like to switch back to my previous topic dealing with the lunch programs. The project I'm doing right now doesn't really have a point, so I don't think I have a very high success rate.

Trouble

I had to get rid of some web sites I had written down because some of them weren't much help. Others repeated the previous sites I had looked at. I am also having trouble coming up with some good foundation quesitons. Most of the questions I think of already have an answer, so I cant' ask them at all.

Today I spent most of my time reading articles on the chef career and looking up different culinary schools. I also added a link to my blog that has become my favorite website. This website has almost everything i need from articles to books i can read. It has a list of other colleges too.

The Zzzz

Today i looked at countless articles called "How to become a chef" or "So you want to be a chef". Some where useful, some where useless and many repeated facts from an article I had previously read. I don't think I found anything interesting that would be useful to my graduation project, in fact the whole thing nearly put me to sleep.

Essential Question?

If i'm interested in doing something dealing with a chef what would my essential question be?

I'm lost

I'm lost. Every topic I suggest gets torn down by someone. So guess what? I'm out of ideas, I am officially lost at sea. How about this "How did the lunch program come about? and "Does it need updated?"

Mr. Kalida did it

Mr. Kalida brought up this idea, he said that I could interview Mrs. Provident and find out about our school lunch system. How is this topic not researchable?

More on New Topic

Mrs. Savido i found a new topic that has less complications. The question is "Who is responsible for the school lunch guide lines and should it be updated?" and "Should schools be responsible for providing lunches for the vegetarian diet?" I've already got plenty of things i can search for to get the information i need.

New topic

Ms. Icus and Mr. K. were talking to me yesterday about my topic and they were very discouraging. They said that i had picked a nearly impossible topic to do my graduation project on and Mr. K wanted me to come back so we could discuss me possibly picking a new topic.
We didn't really discuss how i would progress in my topic. They were too busy trying to convice me to pick a new one. I still want to do this topic, but i am consindering switching to something else.

Three topics that fit the criteria is Journalism, sexual assault victims, and students rights when arrested.

Question

Ms. Savido how many people would i have to interview for my graduation project? Would one be ok or do i have to go into the double digits?
